“Dear March, bring Colors into my life as you bring to the earth.”
Welcome March, Welcome Flowers, Welcome More Daylight, Welcome Spring
March was the first month of the year in the ancient Roman calendar. It was called Martius, named after Mars, the Roman god of war.
Around the year 700 BCE. the Roman king Numa Pompilius introduced January and February into the calendar, pushing March to the third position.
March is still the first month of the year for at least one billion people:
The Start of Spring
The March equinox occurs on Thursday, March 20, 2025. In the Northern Hemisphere, this is known as the vernal, or spring, equinox and marks the start of the spring season. In the Southern Hemisphere, autumn begins.
At this time, the Sun crosses the celestial equator on its way north. Also, on this day, the Sun rises exactly in the east and sets exactly in the west—a good thing to know if you get lost in the woods
A couple of Important Dates in March
March 9: Day Light Savings Time starts in most areas in the USA and Canada by springing the clocks forward one hour.
March 17: St. Patricks Day. What started as a day in honor of Ireland’s patron saint has become an international celebration. People in many countries like to drink, be merry, and wear green on this day.
And we can’t forget…..
Women’s History Month
Every year, March is designated Women’s History Month by presidential proclamation. The month is set aside to honor women’s contributions in American history.
Did You Know? Women’s History Month started as Women’s History Week . . .
Women’s History Month began as a local celebration in Santa Rosa, California. The Education Task Force of the Sonoma County (California) Commission on the Status of Women planned and executed a “Women’s History Week” celebration in 1978. The organizers selected the week of March 8 to correspond with International Women’s Day. The movement spread across the country as other communities initiated their own Women’s History Week celebrations the following year.
In 1980, a consortium of women’s groups and historians—led by the National Women’s History Project (now the National Women’s History Alliance)—successfully lobbied for national recognition. In February 1980, President Jimmy Carter issued the first Presidential Proclamation declaring the Week of March 8th 1980 as National Women’s History Week.
Subsequent Presidents continued to proclaim a National Women’s History Week in March until 1987 when Congress passed Public Law 100-9, designating March as “Women’s History Month.” Between 1988 and 1994, Congress passed additional resolutions requesting and authorizing the President to proclaim March of each year as Women’s History Month. Since 1995, each president has issued an annual proclamations designating the month of March as “Women’s History Month.”
The National Women’s History Alliance selects and publishes the yearly theme. The theme for Women’s History Month 2025 is “Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations.”

Moons in March
March 2025 is a month of powerful celestial events that offer opportunities for reflection, growth, and transformation. From the Full Moon in Virgo accompanied by a Lunar Eclipse to the New Moon in Aries paired with a Solar Eclipse, the energy of March is one of deep spiritual alignment and new beginnings.
WHEN IS THE FULL MOON IN MARCH ?
The March Full Moon occurs on March 14, 2025 and is called the Worm Moon. For many years, the name was thought to refer to the earthworms that appear as the soil warms in spring. This invites robins and other birds to feed—a true sign of spring!
However, more research revealed another explanation. In the 1760s, Captain Jonathan Carver visited the Naudowessie (Dakota) and other Native American tribes and wrote that the name Worm Moon refers to a different sort of “worm”—beetle larvae—which begin to emerge from the thawing bark of trees and other winter hideouts at this time.
This Moon will be in the earthy and detail-oriented sign of Virgo. Known for its grounding energy, Virgo invites us to focus on organization, health, and releasing anything that feels out of alignment.
LUNAR ECLIPSE IN VIRGO
Adding an extra layer of intensity, the Full Moon in Virgo will also coincide with a Lunar Eclipse. Lunar eclipses are a time of culmination, revealing truths and pushing us to let go of what no longer serves us. The energy of this eclipse is perfect for reflecting on old patterns, making room for new growth, and aligning with your highest self.
NEW MOON IN ARIES AND SOLAR ECLIPSE
On March 29, 2025 the New Moon in Aries brings a burst of fiery energy and is paired with a Solar Eclipse, making this an incredibly potent time for manifestation and goal setting. Aries is a sign of leadership and courage, so this is your opportunity to take charge of your dreams and plant seeds for the future.
March has Two Birth Flowers
March’s birth flowers, delightful daffodils and charming jonquils, have different meanings. But take note: All jonquils are daffodils, but not all daffodils are jonquils! Daffodils represent rebirth and hope, while jonquils represent affection and love. Daffodils are believed to have been named after Narcissus, the son of the river god, Cephissus, from Greek mythology. Legend has it that Narcissus fell in love with his own reflection in the water. He was so entranced that he fell into the pool and drowned, with one daffodil blooming in his place of death.
March has Two Birthstones
March has double birthstone magic: Aquamarine, with its watery name, was like a lucky charm for Roman sailors, who believed it protected them on the high seas. Some also thought it could cool tempers, prevent poisoning and increase the chance of epiphanies. Meanwhile, its birthstone buddy, bloodstone, has an association with bravery and vitality that goes back to the Middle Ages and Christian legends.
