Planting the Seeds

Hello,
Hope all is well with you 🙂  Today I am going to Free Write. No rough draft just words coming from my heart that I think I need to share, I want to share.
This BLOG is about my part time job. I have been assisting a woman named Connie for 4 weeks at a Hemet Calif. Elementary School. On Tuesdays I go to the school and we work with 4th grade, 2nd grade and 5th grade students. On Thursdays its 1st and 3rd grade. Your probably wondering how I am assisting Connie. I am helping her share with the children a Mindful Program. This is an 8 week program that helps kids find some inner peace. I came in on the 3rd week of the program which was titled Mindful Movement. —- SIDE NOTE— I have so many thoughts going around in my head about ways of explaining this program, there is soooo much that is tied into each class.
Yoga Mats are laid out by Dwight ( he has been helping Connie for years) In the front of the room Connie has a space where she sits. Around her space there are Crystals and Singing Bowls and a Gong and a lots of other fun peaceful noise makers. The kids take off their shoes and get sprayed with a smudging spray when they come in. The first day was pretty over whelming for me. So many kids! I am not used to that. I am an only child and I do not have children. I have never been really close to any child for a long period of time so i feel a bit clueless about kids. When the kids find a mat and the room quiets down Connie has them sit cross legged on the floor and asks them some questions. Then she will have them close their eyes and do a type of meditation. Breathing, thinking positive thoughts getting them ready for what we will be doing next.As I looked around the room my first week of working I could see that a lot of kids were doing what she asked. After the meditation time the teaching starts. Since I have been helping we have done Mindful Movement (week 3), Community Connection (week 4), Focus (week 5) and Creative Expression (week 6). So during the class there are activities that are based on what the week is about.——SIDE NOTE—– This is so hard to explain!
So we do these activities and then at the end of the class the kids lay on their mat and the lights go down and Connie plays the Sound Bowls.I get up and walk around the room with some beautiful sounding bells/chimes. When we are done with the sounds Connie brings the kids back to their space, lights go on, we do Namaste and the kids get their shoes on and go back to their class room.

There is so much more to share. The Body, the Soul of the program. The activities the kids do to help them connect to each other and themselves with Mindfulness. These kids are so lucky that their class was chosen to be a part of this program because in the 4 weeks I have seen the change. A seed is being planted in these kids lives. To love themselves and honor their uniqueness. They are being given tools that a lot of children don’t get. Ways to breath through difficult times and how to stay calm under pressure.

I know the Universe was working in my direction when this part time job was presented to me at my booth at a Farmers Market in Temecula.

Connie Edwards is the Creator and Facilitator of this program. You can find more info about her at https://www.embracingfwh.org/

I would have never imagined I would be doing something like this, but I am very grateful for every crazy moment. I have been helping plant a Seeds of Hope for our future and I have to say Seeds have been Planted in me too!

In the future I will share a bit more about the activities we do in class. The kids are also learning Sun Salutation Yoga Poses and at the end of the program the kids will show us how well they learned it and there will be a winner or two from each class.

—–SIDE NOTE—– yesterday i think i did Sun Salutation 30 times! I am still tied, but I would  not change a thing and I am grateful for the kids who did it with me!!!!!!!

Peace and Love
